ALROSA unearthed this crystal in the early hours of December 25 at the Botuobinskaya kimberlite pipe in Yakutia. According to estimations made by ALROSA’s experts on site, a rough diamond weighing 190.77 carats has high quality characteristics.
The age of the stone is estimated at about 2 billion years. Further mineralogical analysis will reveal more precise numbers.
“This is a true sign to find such a large and high-quality diamond just around the end of the year. The Nature has already endowed us in 2019. For example, a heart-shaped diamond was mined at the Udachnaya pipe just before Valentine's Day. Surely, such findings are very remarkable," said Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO of ALROSA.
